Voter Registration

Texas law requires a person must be eligible to vote and also to register at least 30 days before Election Day.

Eligibility

To be eligible to vote, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You are a United States citizen;
  • You are a resident of the county where you submit the application;
  • You are at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration application is submitted, and you are 18 years of age on Election Day.
  • You are not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and
  • You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

First-time Registration

To register to vote for the first time:

  1. Complete an online application on the Secretary of State's Application page;
  2. Fill out and print the Texas Voter Registration Application (PDF); or
  3. Contact the Voter Registrar at 409-267-2418

Register When Renewing Driver License

If you possess an existing Texas Driver License or state identification card, you may register to vote online when renewing, replacing or changing your contact information through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Use the DPS web portal to update your information and be given the opportunity to register to vote.

You may update your voter registration information at the Secretary of State's Voter Name and Address Changes page.
