What to expect when visiting the Chambers County Courthouse

Entrances and Hours

The Chambers County Courthouse is open Monday - Friday and is accessible from the west ground-level entrance. Note that although there are several other doors on the other sides of the building, these are all fire escapes, and cannot be used as regular entrances.

The Courthouse is open Monday - Friday from 8am - 12pm & 1pm - 5pm.

 

 

 

Security

Upon entry, visitors must pass through a security checkpoint operated by the Chambers County Sheriff's Office. This security checkpoint includes, but is not limited to, an individual screening with a walk-through magnetometer and the screening of any additional items on an X-ray conveyor belt.

Prohibited Items:

Below is a list of many of the items banned from the Chambers County Courthouse. Please note that it is not all-inclusive, and items are subject to Sheriff's Office approval.

  • Pocket knives
  • Alcohol
  • CO2 canisters
  • Stun guns
  • Ammunition
  • Firearms
  • Corkscrews
  • Pepper Spray
  • Glass containers
  • Laser pointers
  • Box cutters
  • Syringes, Needles, and Medical Tools of any kind 
  • Torch Lighters
  • Vapors of any kind
  • Attempting to bring any of these items past security may result in a citation, arrest, or other criminal charges being filed against you. If you are found to be carrying any of these before entering the security checkpoint, you will be advised to return the items to your vehicle, as the Deputy cannot store or discard items for you.

    CONCEALED HANDGUN AND OPEN CARRY LAWS:
    Pursuant to Penal Code Section 46.03(a)(3), all firearms, including handguns carried by a person with a valid license to carry, are prohibited at all of our court locations.

    Texas Penal Code 30.06:
    "Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun."

    Código Penal de Texas 30.06:
    "De conformidad con el Artículo 30.06 del Código Penal de Texas (sobre el ingreso ilícito de un individuo con licencia de portación de armas cortas ocultas) una persona con licencia, según lo establecido en la Sección H, Capítulo 411 del Código Gubernamental de Texas (sobre la ley de expedición de licencia de armas cortas), tiene prohibido ingresar en esta propiedad con armas cortas ocultas."

    Texas Penal Code 30.07:
    "Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with an openly carried handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a handgun that is carried openly."

    Código Penal de Texas 30.07:
    "De conformidad con el Artículo 30.07 del Código Penal de Texas (sobre el ingreso ilícito de un individuo con licencia de portación de armas cortas exhibidas públicamente) una persona con licencia, según lo establecido en la Sección H, Capítulo 411, del Código Gubernamental de Texas (sobre la ley de expedición de licencia de armas cortas), tiene prohibido ingresar en esta propiedad con armas cortas exhibidas públicamente."

    Courtroom Dress Code:

    To be permitted in the courtroom, you must be dressed appropriately so as to maintain the dignity, decorum and professional atmosphere of the court and the administration of justice.

    No one will be permitted in the courtroom in:

    • Shorts
    • Any immodest or revealing wear such as halter tops or tube tops
    • Any clothing with offensive, vulgar, racist, sexist, obscene, or suggestive words, slogans, depictions, or pictures
    • Pants are to be worn at the waist.
    • No exposed undergarments are permitted.
    • Pants that are tattered, shredded or that exposes skin are not permitted.
    • No hats, caps, head coverings or sunglasses, except with prior permission of the court.

    *Any person not dressed in appropriate courtroom attire is subject to removal from the courtroom. 

    The following rules are strictly enforced:

    • Taking pictures or video with your cellular device is strictly prohibited.
    • Cell phones must be on silent mode while in the courtroom.

    Sala De Corte:

    Para ser permitido en la sala de audiencias, usted debe estar vestido apropiadamente para mantener la dignidad, el decoro y la atmósfera profesional de la corte y la administración de la justicia.

    Nadie será permitido en la sala de:

    • Pantalones cortos
    • Cualquier ropa inmodesta o reveladora como blusas de tirantes o de tubo
    • Cualquier prenda con palabras ofensivas, vulgares, racistas, sexistas, obscenas o sugestivas, eslóganes, representaciones o imágenes
    • Los pantalones deben ser usados en la cintura.
    • No se permite ropa interior expuesta.
    • Pantalones que están rotos, destrozados o que deja al descubierto la piel no son permitidos.
    • No sombreros, gorros, cubiertas de cabeza o gafas de sol, salvo con autorización previa del Tribunal.

      *Cualquier persona que no esté vestida con la vestimenta apropiada de la corte está sujeta a ser removida de la sala de la corte.

      Las siguientes reglas se aplican estrictamente:

    • Tomar fotos o videos con su dispositivo celular está estrictamente prohibido.
    • El teléfono celular debe estar en modo silencioso mientras está en la sala de audiencia.
