What to Expect When Visiting the Chambers County Courthouse

Entrances & Hours

The Chambers County Courthouse is open Monday through Friday and is accessible from the west ground-level entrance. Note that although there are several other doors on the other sides of the building, these are all fire escapes, and cannot be used as regular entrances.

The Courthouse is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Security

Upon entry, visitors must pass through a security checkpoint operated by the Chambers County Sheriff's Office. This security checkpoint includes but is not limited to, an individual screening with a walk-through magnetometer and the screening of any additional items on an X-ray conveyor belt.

Prohibited Items

Attempting to bring any of these items past security may result in a citation, arrest, or other criminal charges being filed against you. If you are found to be carrying any of these before entering the security checkpoint, you will be advised to return the items to your vehicle, as the Deputy cannot store or discard items for you.

Courtroom Dress Code

To be permitted in the courtroom, you must be dressed appropriately so as to maintain the dignity, decorum, and professional atmosphere of the court and the administration of justice.

  • Shorts are not permitted.
  • Any immodest or revealing wear such as halter tops or tube tops are not permitted.
  • Any clothing with offensive, vulgar, racist, sexist, obscene, or suggestive words, slogans, depictions, or pictures are not permitted.
  • Pants are to be worn at the waist.
  • No exposed undergarments are permitted.
  • Pants that are tattered, shredded, or that expose skin are not permitted.
  • No hats, caps, head coverings, or sunglasses, except with prior permission of the court.

Any person not dressed in appropriate courtroom attire is subject to removal from the courtroom. 

Courtroom Rules

  • Taking pictures or videos with your cellular device is strictly prohibited.
  • Cell phones must be on silent mode while in the courtroom.

Concealed Handgun & Open Carry Laws

Pursuant to Penal Code Section 46.03(a)(3), all firearms, including handguns carried by a person with a valid license to carry, are prohibited at all of our court locations.

Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.

Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with an openly carried handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a handgun that is carried openly.
